Taxes

a general compilation of our current tax system

America is a LOW TAX country -----from Business Insider

www.businessinsider.com/america-taxes-charts-2013-1

Are the rich taxed enough?? A debate----

Tax increases and Bull (good) stock markets

if you want to remember that bulls are good and bears are bad---remember that Wall ST has a BULL statue

a report on corporate tax dodgers

Companies are holding almost 2 trillion dollars off shore

taxes collected by President--Obama has the SAME RATES AS BUSH but less taxes collected because of the recession and job losses

Under Bush Tax Cuts---rich paid less while middle class paid more in taxes

this is the ""47%"" picture---Look where the taxes stop---above $200,000 a year!!!!

My tax plan---a progressive tax where the more you make the more you pay in taxes

Another picture of the ideal tax plan---a progressive tax

Journalism and Jon Stewart

as journalists they have to report the news of the day with no opinions and because of ads they have less time for  in depth reporting, and because of ads they need ratings so they compete over infotainment and cover things that more people watch versus whats important

Jon and the daily show and comedians---because they are not journalists---can focus on what the media DOESNT cover---and can take the time to do a more context driven show---Jon has done whole shows on wall st with his jim Cramer interview, he devoted a whole show to the 9/11 health bill, veterans and jobs and guns

so because he is not driven by the day's top headlines he can pick and choose what he covers, when and how---plus he can make jokes and opinions that tell a better truth then the Main Stream Media does

My response to ""more guns less crime""

This blog post responds specifically to this article www.thetrenches.us/2012/12/the-moral-case-for-less-gun-control/

as a liberal who bases my arguments on facts I have many issues with it—

1) govt is established to PROTECT our inalienable rights—not take them away—the Founders just threw out a king and set up a new government---they didn’t want to create a govt that could create more kings or collect power in any one branch—so they made 3 branches that check and balance (and today can blame each other)

2) the idea that a gun in the home would protect you against burglars---now two issues right here

            1) 5 crimes (at least in NYS) can be stopped with deadly force—murder, manslaughter, sodomy, rape and robbery (robbery is theft with a weapon used)

            2) the example used in your article---states that the burglars then break into another house and steal their guns—so either they were not home, the guns were not properly locked up and having guns didn’t stop the burglary

Then there’s this “”A microscopic fraction of high-capacity weapons are used in crimes. So high-cap mags must be banned? But, I thought they loved democracy? Wouldn’t that be “majority rule”, rather than tyranny of the minority?””

Here is my answer to this—there are thousands of gun deaths every year—I’ve heard different numbers from 10,000 to 30,000—most are handguns and include suicides, accidents, street gang crime and murders between family members—mass murders account for less than 100 deaths in most years—2012 had 120

So if majority ruled we would outlaw handguns—which no one is doing—partly because mass shootings get more media attention, partly because of race—most killed are young black//latino men killed by young black//latino men and because any gun has to have at least one bullet and one bullet can still kill one person (which is why I’m strongly in favor of civilian limits on ammo capacity)

Then there’s this as well---“”The point is this: top down policies never solve highly individualized problems. This is why I advocate federalism. Localized rule.  The government closest to individual citizens can best respond to individual issues. And they usually have more reverence for Natural Law.””
There has to be a balance of States’ Rights and Fed govt---end of sentence--- they have different roles and both make general rules of safety—Fed deals with other nations and interstate issues.
And then your argument about Hitler Cambodia etc as I’ve heard everywhere recently---here is a fact check from 2009---these comparisons that gun control was the ONLY factor in leading to mass murder leaves out many factors that lead to these genocides

Mad at Obama happy with Bush

Good Bush things and Bad Obama things

here is a difference between GOP and Dems-- there is plenty to blame obama about--the difference i find is Dems blame obama for real things while he is still in office--ive only heard GOP talk about bush after he was gone--spent too much, not a real conservative etc---tea party was mad at bush too---they just formed after obama came into office---

Ok want some real reasons to be mad at obama??

didnt close Gitmo--also congress's fault but Obama is pres

too close to wall st and goldman sachs--geithner, summers, corzine and others

mortgage assistance has failed several times--many reasons but also obama only helps those who NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT---leaves out many who need help

Whistleblowers--obama has been very aggressive prosecuting govt whistleblowers

Obama didnt really end the Iraq war--troop withdrawal was negotiated under bush--remember when the shoe was thrown at him?? that was SOFA (Status of Forces) agreement--obama tried to keep some troops behind in iraq---BUT WE ARE NOW NEGOTIATING WITH A SOVEREIGN NATION WHO CAN DECIDE WHETHER THEY WANT FOREIGN TROOPS STILL ON THEIR LAND----AND DECIDED NOT TO GIVE LEGAL PROTECTION TO OUR TROOPS ANYMORE

Dodd Frank---not really obama---congress wrote the law----but still allows many things that led to the financial crisis

Stimulus act---GOP criticizes that it was too big----actually it was too small----and large portion were tax cuts to please GOP and get votes-----a good reason economy didnt bounce back as fast

2010 bush tax cuts extension----not a reason to be mad at obama--just a clarification-----obama did not want to extend tax cuts for top 2% as i hear GOP say now ""obama didnt wanna raise taxes in a bad economy""-----no--he didnt wanna raise taxes on the middle class----still doesnt----payroll tax cuts were what he wanted----had to extend top 2% or GOP wouldve voted no

so these are some real reasons to be upset with obama-----not vacations, obama phone (which was actually started under REAGAN and is paid for), being a muslim or socialist or fascist or govt takeover of healthcare etc etc etc etc etc
GOOD THINGS ABOUT BUSH
on the other side here are some reasons to be happy with bush's record

afghan war from 2001-2003

it was necessary response to 9/11, but iraq war distracted from goal of stabilizing afghanistan----i would have much preferred either not going into iraq----more on that later-----OR stabilizing afghanistan another year or two and THEN showing success in afghanistan saying OK now we need to focus on other dangerous govts in the region who pose a threat to us-----but lying about WMD and 9/11 and al qaeda link was bad and stupid-----even though getting rid of saddam was not a bad thing

PEPFAR----a good anti AIDS program in Africa started by bush

changing rumsfeld for bob gates, and general patreaus as well were good choices by bush

no pardons on leaving office---called it too political and criticized the process-----although commutted libby's sentence in valerie plame case

tried to reform immigration policy---GOP congress opposed it

refused to criticize obama after bush left office-----not the right thing to do he said

TARP was necessary during the financial crisis----couldve put some strings attached to the money-----but then again so could have obama

just a few good things about bush

till next time :)

The Truth about Guns in England and UK

Since Newtown the talk about guns has often included the UK as an example.

Monday night January 14, 2013 Piers Morgan was on The Colbert Report and said (paraphrasing some of his quotes) ""there are no guns in England, the police don't have guns and there are no guns and we have 35-40 gun murders every year""

http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/422859/january-14-2013/piers-morgan

So what are the facts?? Well first of all ""the police dont carry guns"" struck me as false when after the 7/7/05 bombings in London police famously shot a Brazilian man in the subway who they believed was a terrorist.

Also some numbers on general guns in UK from
